Gums, gingkos and a golden wych elm: voting for Victoria’s tree of the year

From Carlton to Castlemaine, the National Trust of Victoria competition aims to raise awareness about trees

A decades-old shady eucalyptus, an elm beloved by thousands of commuters, and a type of gingko once thought to be extinct in the wild are among the finalists for Victoria’s tree of the year.

The competition run by the National Trust of Victoria started in 2016 as a way to raise awareness about trees around Victoria and advocate for their protection by celebrating significant trees.
