Andy Burnham has rejected claims that the United Kingdom is approaching the point where it might break up.

At an event in Cardiff this morning, the leaders of the SNP, Plaid Cymru and Sinn Féin signed a memorandum of understanding saying that “Westminster’s time is coming to an end” and that the UK government should accept that fundamental constitutional change is coming. (See 11.20am.)

The prime minister is committed to delivering change across all four nations of the United Kingdom and believes strongly in the union.

The United Kingdom is at its best when people come together around our shared values and problem-solving, rather than division, and the prime minister will continue to ease pressures on household finances, and delivering greater economic security, rather than engaging in constitutional debates or further referendums.

The evidence is clear: Reform UK is a party for sale. Nigel Farage is a politician for sale. And given half the chance, they’d sell our country down the river.

There is a direct political thread, a nasty politics, that links Nigel Farage, Rupert Lowe, and Tommy Robinson, with Donald Trump, Maga and the US white supremacist movement.

It starts with demonising migrants. It flies flags, not as an expression of national pride, but to intimidate. It fans the literal flames that set fire to hostels and libraries. And it ends up with proto-fascist mobs roaming our streets in balaclavas, targeting brave volunteers in lifeboats.
